An old technique, used to imitate exotic graining and figuring in wood and marble. We are occasionally called in to execute this to match existing work that has got damaged.
Some venacular stools and chairs need restoring with seagrass, reed or paper. These chairs required two-tone paper but we can match almost any material and pattern that you have.
This process uses a variety of widths and types of cane to restore valuable heirlooms to their original condition. Here you see a little tub chair in mahogany, with curved back, that has recently been restored here.
This is another unusual repair that was undertaken here - a new leather surface was put on a writing desk. This is called a skiver and is also usually tooled in gold, green or red.
